YF&R Awards and Competition Applicants Needed

Colorado Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer and Rancher Program is in need of applicants for the various competitive events that they offer. All applicants must be Colorado Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18-35. All state applications are due Friday,
October 23, 2009.The first competition is the Discussion Meet. The Discussion Meet is designed to simulate a committee meeting or county board meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each member. The panel of competitors discusses pre-selected topics. Contestants give a 30-second opening statement then settle in to 25 minutes of open discussion followed by a one-minute closing statement.

The Farm Bureau Excellence in Agriculture Award Program is designed as an opportunity for Young Farmers & Ranchers to earn recognition, while actively contributing and growing through their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e., civic, service and community). The ideal candidate(s) for the Excellence in Agriculture Award is an individual or couple who does not have the majority of their income subject to normal production risk. Competitors fill out a written application and prepare a 10 minute presentation for the competition.
Excellence in Ag Award application.The final competition is the Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award. Selection of the winning Young Farmers & Ranchers competitor is based on his/her efforts in production agriculture and leadership achievement. The ideal candidate(s) for the Achievement Award is an individual or couple involved in production agriculture with a majority of their income subject to normal production risks. There is a written application followed by an interview.
YF&R Achievement Award application. Prizes will be awarded for each competition on the state level and will include a paid trip to Seattle, Washington to compete at the national level at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Annual Meeting in January 2010
